Light-controlled nanotech brake for molecular machine

One goal of nanotechnology is to implement machine parts with atomically precise components. Adding to the list of mechanical components that have been demonstrated on the molecular scale, Taiwanese researchers have constructed a molecule in which exposure to light causes the molecule to change shape so that rotation of one part of the molecule with respect to another part can no longer occur…

Nanotechnology demonstration of room-temperature graphene transistors

In yet another step toward making nanotech transistors from graphene nanoribbons, chemically-prepared graphene nanoribbons less than 10 nm wide were found to be uniformly semiconducting, room-temperature, field-effect transistors…

Kavli prize honors nanotechnology researchers

Two researchers were rewarded with the 2008 Kavli Prize in Nanoscience for their pioneering discoveries of quantum dots and carbon nanotubes, two of the most exciting and promising nanotech materials…

Nanotechnology combines multiple molecules of drug to prevent HIV infection

A major advantage of nanotech drug delivery is that multiple drug molecules can be combined on one nanoparticle so that one nanoparticle binds more strongly to the drug target than would the isolated drug molecules. Attaching 12 molecules of an HIV drug to a 2.0 nm diameter gold nanoparticle enabled the drug to prevent HIV infection in cultured patient cells…

Artificial organelles: nanotechnology beyond simple drug delivery

The same nanotech approaches being explored to deliver drugs exactly to the cells where they are needed also provide a technology base that might lead to permanent enhancements of human metabolism…

Advancing Beneficial Nanotechnology

Do you believe that nanotechnology will give society the ability to tackle the hard challenges facing humanity? What's your priority for nanotechnology: cancer treatments and longevity therapies, sustainable energy, clean water, a restored environment, space development, or "zero waste" manufacturing? Or perhaps there are potential nanotech scenarios you would like to prevent.

If you would like to help influence the direction of this powerful technology, please consider becoming a member of Foresight Nanotech Institute. With your support, Foresight will continue to educate the general public on beneficial nanotechnology and what it will mean to our society.

NanoMaterials08
Inspiring Commercial Success
July 7-9, 2008
The Newcastle Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park, UK

Following the huge success of our inaugural conference which attracted over 200 delegates, NanoCentral® and IntertechPira are pleased to bring you NanoMaterials08. Taking place between 7-9 July at the Newcastle Marriott Hotel, this is the only event of its kind to focus on the commercialisation of nanomaterials. NanoMaterials08 is made up of poster sessions, workshops, exhibitions, a conference and social programme, and will feature a variety of national and international companies active in the nanomaterials revolution. With over 400 attendees expected, this event will provide excellent networking and learning opportunities, and is not to be missed.

Nanotech Northern Europe 2008
Europe's largest annual nanotechnology conference
September 23-25, 2008
Copenhagen, Denmark

Nanotech Northern Europe brings together the field's top scientists and leading international companies in order to advance the beneficial use of nanotechnology. The 2008 event concentrates around three application areas:

  • Sustainable solutions for energy and environment
  • Nanotechnology-enabled ICT (info & communication technologies)
  • Nanobiotechnology and nanomedicine

The program also features sessions on:

  • Global nanotechnology and business development
  • Safety and risk management
  • Tech transfer
